Case Study - Mencap (North Somerset)

« Back to all Case Studies

September 2008 North Somerset Mencap

Mencap is one of the largest independent providers of supportive living throughout the uk offering an outstanding support system. Their main aim is to continue to deliver better quality, better value services to all of their residents and to reinvest in the long-term maintenance of their homes. To achieve this they need to ensure they operate with a quality supply chain and ProAct2it Ltd undertook refurbishment and painting works for them in Clevedon, near Bristol.

The project consisted of Full internal redecorations, a garage conversion in to a utility room with a new roof over the kitchen and upgrading the shower room to a wet room. The project was to be occupied full time by its residents. A programme of work was agreed at the contract briefing to ensure that the residents had a minimum of disruption.

It soon became clear throughout phase 1 - the internal decorationā€˜s, that water penetration from the roof was apparent and that the roof required re-covering along with replacing timber rafters. An action plan was put into place and scaffold was erected immediately and with-in 8 days the scaffold was removed again after a very swift and successful variation to this project.

Following the internal decorations, shower room upgrade and roofing work, the projects major works commenced by demolition of the garage and the re-building and converting the garage into a utility room. Working closely with the Chairmen of NS Mencap and building control the contract was seamless and successfully completed with a minimum of fuss, to the high quality standard that was set out.
There were various variations added to the contract through out which did not encumber the project, including upgrading the fire system, additional electrical installations, remedial damp works and DDA adaptations.

The result was that a client and the residents had received a service over and above expectations, with their satisfaction with the outcome evidenced in the fact were instantly contracted for a further contract on completion of the initial programme.
